Surface to find clarity

When a bubble of confusion surface (wound, belief, reactive emotion, unease) it does so to find clarity. In a quite real sense, it is a being that wish clarity and liberation from it’s suffering.

So how would it be to meet these beings as a friend? To meet them with some clarity, wisdom and kindness?

Here are some ways to meet them:

How is it to allow myself to experience it now? Is it true it’s too much? Is it true it’s too difficult? Is it true I need to contain it? Is it true I am not already experiencing it?

And if experiencing it in a simple way is difficult, then one of these pointers may be helpful: How is it to be with it?  Open my heart to it? Feel how it is to dive into the middle of it and be it? Notice it’s already allowed? Notice I already am it?

I can also explore these beings in a more detailed way.

What do I find when I dialog with this part? How is it to take time to listen to what it has to say, get familiar with how it experiences the world? Let it know I appreciate it’s service? Remind it that we are partners and and invite it to remind itself of it’s main purpose? (Help me live the best possible life.) Invite it to explore different and more helpful strategies? What advice does this part have for me? (Voice Dialog, Big Mind process.)

How is it to do inquiry from the perspective of this part? What is it’s fears? It’s beliefs about the world? How is it to ask it if it’s true? What happens when it’s taken as true? How would it be if it was free from the thought? What’s the validity in the reversals? (The Work.)

Something about their dynamics:

When thoughts/dynamics are “caught up” in what surfaces – take the stories as true, resist the experience etc. – then they are more likely to stay confused.

When they are (a) allowed to be experienced and flow through, (b) met with an open heart and appreciation (from understanding that they come from an impulse to benefit the human self), and (c) the fears/stories behind them are seen/felt and there is more clarity around it, they exist in an environment where they are more able to release and align more with reality.

And one additional perspective:

There is no “I” so what awakens are these human parts that are caught in confusion, beliefs and suffering. They are the ones who find clarity, align more with reality, awaken out of their suffering and the identification as an “I” that happens as soon as a thought is believed.

There is no “I” to be enlightened nor any permanent enlightenment, only the thought that’s here now that’s confused (believed) or more clear and aligned with reality. And it can always be more clear.

Note: When I write this, it’s a reminder for myself, and I also see it’s to create a sense for myself that I understand or even can “control” what’s happening. Of course, there is no way of really understanding it (although thoughts can be reminders and provide helpful and practical pointers) and it’s already free of any “control” and there is no “I” to control it.

I’ll just make this simple:

Whatever surfaces of confusion (wounds, beliefs, reactive emotions) do so to find clarity. They wish to align with reality and find liberation from their confusion and suffering.

How would it be to meet these parts of me as a friend? How would it be to meet these with clarity, wisdom and kindness?

Some ways to talk about this:

Whatever wasn’t fully experienced first time resurfaces to be released now. It wasn’t fully released then (due to resistance) so surfaces to release now.

Beliefs surface so they can find clarity, align more with reality and release from suffering.

Some ways to explore this:

How is it to allow myself to experience it now? How is it to be with it, open my heart to it, dive into the middle of it and be it, notice I already allow it, notice I already am it?

There is no “I” to awaken or find clarity, so what’s finding clarity and awakening is all the human parts of us, it’s the life processes associated with this human being. These are the ones who awaken out of their confusion and align with reality.

And they do so through surfacing with all their confusion – their suffering, pain, resistance etc. – and with an invitation to be seen, felt, loved and find clarity. They are, in a quite real sense, beings surfacing to find clarity, to find release out of their confusion and suffering.

How would I meet a friend who came to me in such a state? How would I meet a friend from clarity, wisdom and kindness? When a confused part of me surfaces, how would it be to meet this being in the same way? How would it be to open my heart to it? Allow it it’s experience? Gently invite it to see what’s more true?

Said another way – in the words of Byron Katie – I can be enlightened or not to the thought that’s here now. That’s all. There is no “permanent” enlightenment nor an “I” to be enlightened. Only the thought that’s here finding clarity or not, aligning with reality or not.

The Big Mind process is a good way to explore this more in detail and enter into a dialog with these parts, offer an environment for these beings to  find clarity. As is The Work, and all the other approaches such as diving into the middle of the experience and be it, open my heart to it etc.

All this is is a reframing, a perspective that can be helpful in finding a different way of meeting what surfaces, meeting it as a friend in pain who seeks wisdom and clarity.

Some additional notes:

Whenever a thought is taken as true, there is identification with its’ viewpoint and a sense of I, and there is suffering since it is opposed to reality. Belief = identification as an I = out of alignment with reality = suffering.

Reality can awaken to itself “as a whole” and “transcend” these human parts that are still wounded and in confusion. These can be very helpful glimpses, and the confused parts will surface to align with reality. If this knowing is clear and stays while the confused parts surface, they may realign quite easily. There may also be a temporary reidentification with these confused parts and reality “forgets” itself, or at least perceives that it does.

  • each part of the human/animal invited to awaken
    • first in confusion, reflect a belief – so appear as wounds, confusion, tension, trauma
    • then surface to be seen, felt, loved – to realign, align with reality, awaken to reality
    • each of them is an “I” since a belief = identification with/as a viewpoint, an “I”
    • when triggered by life, the “I” is triggered as well
    • sun vs flashlight analogy, may not always notice the little pockets/bubbles of “I” unless they surface
    • but are still there, influence the whole of how we perceive and how we are in the world, which is why they surface with an invitation for them to awaken and align with reality
    • when surface, can get caught in them (fuel them) or see, feel, love (allow them to release)
    • can be enlightened to a thought, or not – the one that’s here now – bk
    • …….

– surface to find clarity, release from confusion (release from belief, suffering)
– seek the light, seek clarity, seek love

– reality awakens to itself
– reality awakens to itself as all the human parts of us
– surface to

………………..

Since there is no “I” to awaken to reality, what’s awakening is all the parts of the human/animal, the life processes associated with this human being. They awaken out of their confusion.

………………..

Here are two aspects of finding clarity from my own experience:

(a) Reality can awaken to itself no matter what’s going on with my human self, and when this happens there is a sense of “transcendence” of my human self.

(b) And all the different parts of my human self can awaken as well. When (a) fades, these surface to find clarity and align with reality.

………………..

From previous post:

There is an important difference between (a) reality knowing itself and (b) experience.

Reality already (i) allows and (ii) appears as any and all experiences, and this is what awakens to itself. It awakens out of the identification as a separate I. And since it already allows and appears as any and all experiences, it can recognize itself independent of (through/in) any and all experiences and states.

While there is identification as an “I” there may still be glimpses and direct knowing of this reality, although it is filtered through this identification. So the recognition of all as God (awareness) is filtered to appear as unity, all as God yet experienced by an I. Also, since there is identification as something within experience, there may at first be the mistaken belief that awakening has to do with states, and specifically the initial side effects of recognizing all as God – such as bliss, joy, insight, inspiration, passion, perhaps seeing auras etc. These side effects happen just because of the relief inherent in glimpsing reality, and since they are experiences, they pass too. As they pass, there may be a sense of loss and dryness. Since God was mistaken for states, when the states pass it may appear that “God” is lost too. The next phase is for reality awakening to itself and out of identification as an I.

Throughout this process, there is also a realignment of the human/animal with reality, and whatever isn’t aligned may surface to be seen, felt and loved so it can be released from confusion. Each part of the human/animal is invited to awaken to reality too, and since they need to surface to do so the process may not appear all that enjoyable as it happens. The reason these parts are not aligned is that they reflect confusion about reality (beliefs), so what surfaces may include wounds, confusion, dread, fear, terror, anger, grief, regrets and whatever else happens when a thought is believed. It may seem that the process is going in a backwards or wrong direction, and there may be a lot of resistance to it, but it’s all from love. It’s an invitation for all of the human/animal to awaken to/realign with reality.

And it will happen whether there is resistance or not, since the resistance too comes from this confusion and is one of the parts that’s invited to awaken/realign.
