Spirituality can be a refuge.
Prayer, meditation, community, thoughts about reality, God etc. All of that can become, and often is, a refuge from discomfort and unease.
That’s OK. It can even be helpful. It can provide much needed comfort, and it can help us find clarity.
And it’s also good to notice and be honest about this.
What do I hope to get out of spirituality? What am I afraid would happen if I didn’t have it in my life?
What do I find when I take those lists to inquiry?

What do I hope to get out of spirituality?
Be on the right track. Do the right thing.
Be a good person. Be seen as a good person.
Be admired. Be liked.
Find a community where I can avoid conflict.
Find satisfaction, happiness.
Escape unease, discomfort, sense that things are not right.
What am I afraid would happen if I didn’t have it in my life?
I would be lost. Feel miserable. Live in a small world.
I would miss out of something important/vital.
I would find a community that’s not loving, supporting.

- spirituality as refuge
- prayer, meditation, theology, thoughts about… reality, god etc.
- all can become a refuge, from discomfort/unease
- it’s ok, can even be helpful, and yet good to notice, good to be honest about
- when it’s all recognized as ok, then no need for spirituality
