What if I had planned this life?

How would it be if I had chosen and planned this life before birth? Why would I have chosen these experiences and situations?

What do I find when I ask myself this question, on a specific situation, and wait for answers to surface?  Can I find another example of why I would have chosen it, and another?

I did this exploration with a friend earlier today – on two themes from my life – and this is her notes.

Here are the notes from the exercise : ‘Why did I choose these experiences in this/my life?’
Health Experiences

Have helped me to relax and not be so driven. Helped me to enjoy relaxing and not doing much.
Helped me to find myself, without identities around what I am / what I do in the world
Inspired me to learn TRE, to do more inquiry and to learn more about the links between food and health.
Given me empathy with others with health problems – see it’s not always easy to pull self out of it.
Helped me connect with friends differently —> more open about things that are not so easy for me.
Deepened connection with some friends – more human
Led me to meet new people, share experiences. Talking about my health experiences has led to connection (intimacy through shared problems).
Helped me to face fears around not being able to work, losing status in society, death.
Taught me humility – I am an ordinary human being just like anybody else
Early 20s relationships that didn’t happen

Helped me to see I want to be more clear about what I want, and ask for what I want
Helped me to experience regret and grief – universal human experiences.
Helped me be free to travel and go to Salt Lake City
Freed me up to have other relationships
Helped me to see that TRE would be helpful to release held tension/stress around this
Helped me to do more inquiry and TRE
Helped me to see that with old wounds I can’t just flick a switch and be rid of them
Helped me to be more humble/human
**Inviting me to be more honest – at the time I chose it – difficult for me to accept this fully **
High Expectations – looking for something better
Helped me learn to not wait / ask for what I want (take initiative)

How is it to explore this question? What happens?

Right now, I notice that this what if question helps shift my perspective. It helps me be more solution oriented – shift out of victim mode, and play more on team with myself and life. It helps me and find compassion and kindness for myself and others in my life.

Note: A friend of mine (CL) lent me a book called Courageous Souls which explores this topic.

Imagine this is before incarnation, and you can chose any life and any life experiences.

You chose this life. Why would you want to chose the experiences in your life?

Take a specific situation in your life, perhaps a challenging one. Make a list of why you would have wanted that experience, what you can learn from it.

Use it as a meditation, and be specific, concrete and close to the specific situation.

I did this with a friend earlier today, on two topics from my life, and this is her notes.

This is a “what if” exploration. What if it’s this way, how does it look to me then? I notice it helps me be more solution oriented, work with myself and life rather than against, and find kindness and compassion for myself and others.
