I recognize this for myself.
And I also see some beliefs behind this:
It’s uncomfortable to face this experience, this thought.
Facing this emotion/belief will be overwhelming, too much.
Something terrible will happen if I allow this experience/look at this thought.
Looking at this thought will open up a Pandora’s box.
It’s possible to escape what I am experiencing. It’s possible to not allow this experience.
I need to get away from this experience.
This experience is not as good as another experience.
This experience is uncomfortable.
And to balance it out, here are some opposing beliefs to look at:
It’s not OK to escape.
It’s not OK to take my time.
It’s not OK indulge in pleasure (rather than inquire into beliefs).
I need to allow this experience.
I should inquire into this belief.
– (a) it’s too uncomfortable, it’s too much, something terrible will happen if I allow this experience/look at this thought,
– (b) it’s not ok to escape,
