Do you live an inauthentic life because you can’t bear the thought that they might disapprove of you? Do you try to figure out how they would like you to be, and then try to become that, like a chameleon?
– Byron Katie
I initially read this as “do you live an authentic life” and that seems as true for me. I see I sometimes try to live up to an image of what an authentic life would look like so I can find approach from myself, others, life, God, and that feels as uncomfortable. That too comes from trying to figure out how others or life would like me to be, and then try to live that. It comes from a set of beliefs: I am not enough. I am not OK as I am. I need the approval, love and acceptance of others, life, God. I can figure out how to get others to like me. I can figure out how to play it so God approves.
