Asap Thought: Dear Lazy People

A good summary of some simple ways to (a) align more with reality in order to (b) get things done – or find peace with not doing it.

There are just two elements to it:

Don’t trust your future self. If you are not doing it now, you are not likely to do it tomorrow, or the day after.

Be honest with yourself. Instead of saying I don’t have time or I’ll do it tomorrow, say what’s more true: It’s not a priority to me right now. It can feel harsh but it’s the reality. And the truth shall set us free. It will either motivate us to do it now, or find more peace with not doing it.

I have found these two helpful for myself.

Exploring procrastination

With fatigue many hangups surface that I previously could override. Procrastination is one of these.

Here are some ways to explore procrastination using the living inquiries:

AI: Can I find the threat in doing X?

UI: What does this procrastination say about me? Can I find this deficient self?

AI: Can I find the threat in not doing X?

CI: Can I find the compulsion to do X?

CI: Can I find the compulsion to not do X?

And some mining to get at underlying stories:

What’s the worst that can happen if I don’t do X?

What’s do I fear would happen if I do X?

What’s the best that can happen if I do X?

What’s the best that can happen if I don’t do X?

I usually look at the threat in doing X. I look at the image of what I need to do or me doing it, and see if there is a reaction. If there is, I feel that reaction / sensation. I look at associated images and words. I may do some mining. I go back to feeling the sensations.
