New York Times has an article about how it is, from a certain perspective, likely that we live in some form of Matrix-type simulation. That may well be, or not (probably not, actually), and it only matters – as a life and death type matter – if we identify with this human self, or with content of experiences in general.
If we notice ourselves as awareness, and this content of awareness (including our human self) as awareness itself, then it doesn’t matter so much. No matter “who” we are in content of awareness, whether it is this human self or something else, it is all made up of awareness. It all has the same nature of awake void and form, no matter what that form happens to be.
