Inquiry: Norway should be as exciting as the US

Norway should be as exciting as the US.

  1. True?
Yes. It would be great if Norway had what I like about it and added the things I like from the US.
  2. Sure?
No. Don’t know if that would be better for me, or people in Norway, or even possible. (I suspect the things I like from the US came about through many of the same conditions that created what I don’t like about US culture.)
  3. What happens when I believe that thought?
    • I feel torn about living in the US or Norway. If I stay in the US, I’ll have access to much I find exciting and rewarding. If I live in Norway, I will feel more nurtured and at home, but may miss out of it.
    • When did I first have that thought? When I went back after my first year studying in Salt Lake City, and living at the Zen center there. At that point, I definitely wanted to stay in the US rather than go back to Norway.
  4. Who would I be without that belief?
    • Free to enjoy Norway as it is, without having it to be different. Receptivity to what is there. And receptive to bring into my life what I feel I need beyond that. Receptive to exploring different practical ways of organizing and living my life, bringing in the best from Norway and the US.
  5. Turnarounds.
    • Norway should not be as exciting as the US.
      • No, it is what it is. What Norway is now has come about through a unique combination of conditions and influences.
      • Also, it is good for people to look and go somewhere else for certain things. It is good to not have everything right at hand, to go beyond what we are familiar with to find it.
      • It makes me look at the situation more carefully. Look at what I really want, and how I can go about bringing it into my life.
    • The US should be as exciting as Norway.
      • Well, for me at least. When I explore my relationship to both, I can find my excitement about the US again.
    • I should be as exciting as the US.
      • Yes, I can embrace and actively live from those sides in me more. What is exciting for me about the US? (Innovation, willing to go beyond, unrestrained by conventions.) How can I bring that more fully into my life, whether I live in the US or Norway? How can I live more fully from it?

Additional statements: I will miss out if I live in Norway. I miss out by living in the US. I need to find the right place to live. It is possible to not live in the right place.
