Everyone shifts when you shift

Everyone shifts when you shift. I promise, it’s how it works.
Byron Katie

That’s my experience too. If I dissect it, I can see that it’s partly because I see them differently (through different, more kind, stories), and they see me differently (I relate to them in a different way).

Also, when my stories change my whole world changes.

Sometimes, this can even happen in quite surprising ways.  I did an “enemy” exercise recently, identifying an enemy in my life, writing down a Judge Your Neighbor worksheet on the person, and then inquiry on those statements. I selected a kid from my elementary school I saw as a bully, and realized what’s more true is that he (a) was scared and felt inferior, and (b) sometimes was a good friend. I experienced a tangible shift in how I perceived him. That evening, after not having had contact with him since middle school, I received an request from him for Facebook friendship.

This is definitely a synchronicity, a meaningful coincidence, and it’s even possible that he – somehow – picked up a shift in me. And from a larger perspective, our perceptions and actions are expression of movements within the whole.

In any case, I love him and only my stories prevented me from seeing it earlier.

– just notice
– also, if dissect – (a) perception shifts, (b) behavior shift so they meet you differently, (c) something beyond that

………..

My perception of the person shifts. I interpret what he is she is doing in a quite different way, one that’s more aligned with reality. My behavior towards that person shifts, which invites them to shift how they relate to me. And there may well be something beyond that too.
