I saw you have spoken about Obsessive Compulsive Thinking Disorder. It was suggested to me that I could have it but when I tried to do more research, I turned up a blank, after reading your post, I realise this is probably due to it not being in the DSM.
Would you be able to provide me with any information about the disorder or point me in the direction where I may be able to do my own research, or place me in contact with a professional.
Thank you.
Hi Rebecca – there is something called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), of course, which is in the DSM. Obsessive Thinking Disorder is a much more informal term, and I haven’t heard many use it. In any case, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and similar approaches (including forms of inquiry such as The Work and the Living Inquiries) can be helpful. You should be able to find therapists who specialize in obsessive thinking, and you can find inquiry facilitators online (I am one of them). Hope that helps.
Obsessive Thinking Disorder is something most of us have, to varying degrees. It’s just obsessive thinking. Obsessively going to thought to try to find what we think we need, often a sense of safety, or love, or feeling that we are OK. Thoughts are not really where we find it, which is why it doesn’t work so well.
