Asian Art Museum SF: Embodying the sacred

One of the reasons it’s such a pleasure for me to visit the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco is that the curators and docents there seem to get Asian spirituality.

They seem to get what it’s about in more than just an intellectual way. The text above is a good example. It’s written in a simple and direct language so it’s accessible to the average visitor, and yet it’s very much in alignment with the insights and realizations of essential Asian spirituality.

From what I have seen in other museums and exhibits (and even university lectures), this is not a given. I assume it may be because of the aliveness of Asian spirituality in the Bay Area, initially through immigrants and later through westerners adopting and practicing within the traditions.
