Awakening is a form of healing

I like seeing awakening as a form of healing. We heal from separation consciousness.

When we – as a whole and in our parts, operate from separation consciousness, it comes with discomfort and suffering. It’s out of alignment with reality.

And although it’s very natural, ordinary, and part of lila (the play of life and the divine), it can be seen as a kind of disease. It’s literally dis-ease, a lack of ease.

Fortunately, there are remedies for this dis-ease, and there are remedies that support healing at a human level, and healing out of separation consciousness.

HEALING OF SEPARATION CONSCIOUSNESS

How do we heal separation consciousness? And is that even an accurate way to talk about it?

We heal (from) separation consciousness in a few general ways.

The main one is to notice what we are. To find what we more fundamentally are in our own first-person experience, keep noticing, and explore how to live from it. Some forms of inquiry can help us find this relatively quickly and without much preparation, and basic meditation (notice and allow) also helps us find this in time.

Another is to unravel or see through any distractions from noticing what we are, any blocks from noticing it, and anything covering it up. This happens mostly through different forms of inquiry.

There are also several approaches that support the two. Many of them mimic how we naturally perceive and live from noticing what we are, and they support our human self in aligning with this whether or not we already notice.

HEALING OUT OF SEPARATION CONSCIOUSNESS

It’s perhaps more accurate to say that we heal from or out of separation consciousness.

And we find healing for the effects of having lived with separation consciousness for however long we did – which could be decades, or if we assume several lives then several lifetimes.

THE PLAY OF LIFE OR THE DIVINE

And, really, it’s life or the divine healing itself from a dis-ease it created for itself.

It’s all part of lila, the play of life or the divine.

It’s life or the divine expressing, exploring, and experiencing itself in always new ways, including through separation consciousness, and then healing from and out of separation consciousness. And it’s all ongoing.

THE GENERAL REMEDY

The remedies for this disease are found in the spiritual traditions of the world.

I would highlight basic meditation combined with certain forms of inquiry, supported by a range of other spiritual practices.

I’ll go into this in a bit more detail.

MORE SPECIFIC CONDITIONS & REMEDIES

What are the specific conditions holding separation consciousness in place? And what are some of the remedies?

BASIC MEDITATION

Basic meditation is to notice and allow what’s here in our experience, and also notice it’s already allowed (by life, mind, space) and even noticed (it’s happening within and as consciousness).

INQUIRY HELPING US NOTICE WHAT WE ARE

USING APPROACHES THAT SUPPORT BOTH FORMS OF HEALING

We can find and use approaches that support both healing out of separation consciousness, and healing of our human self.
