Dream: Kiara waves from a distance

I am in the Bay Area, on my own. I have tried to connect with Kiara but she is very busy. At some point, I see her across the street, smiling and waving at me, and about to enter a car to go somewhere.

In the dream, it was pretty clear what this was about – at least at one level.

A relative and friend (Gabriel K.) died a few days ago, I had looked forward to connecting with him and getting to know him more, and that’s too late now. I liked him very much, we had a lot in common, and he was an amazing, kind, and engaged human being. (He was active in the Green Party which I am a member of too.)

That brought up memories of friends I liked a lot (Bruce W.), and acquaintances I liked and wanted to get to know better, who have died.

Kiara is still very much alive, and another friend I like a lot and have a lot in common with. We spent time together some years ago, when I was in the Bay Area, and now, we connect now and then on WhatsApp and talk maybe just once a year.

The dream was a reminder to not take friendships and people for granted. Yes, they may be here when I contact them, but our opportunity to connect and spend time together will eventually be gone. What comes together falls apart.

So why not connect with those still here? Why not connect with Kiara? I just sent her a message asking if she wants to talk one of these days.

The photo is from a walk we went on together some years ago, in the Berkeley hills. Somehow, it also symbolizes what’s on this side of the fence – in this case the friends I have that are still alive and I can connect with, and what’s on the other side – the ones I am, for whatever reason, unable to connect with.
