Helping others can be a way to avoiding feeling our own pain and deficiency stories.
That’s no reason to not do it. If it’s my profession, I can continue doing it. And if I am a parent, then I will certainly continue to do so. And sometimes, if we habitually get into helping others at the cost of our own life and needs, it may be good to pull back from it for a while, so we can take care of whatever is compelling us to ignore our own needs and instead help others.
In any case, it’s good to be aware of.
What would I have to feel if I am not helping? What would I have to feel here and now?
This is especially relevant for me now as I will start working more with clients. I notice it makes me feel more alive, and I don’t want that to be a reason for me to not take care of my own things. If anything, being in that role for others is an incentive for me to take care of my own stuff.
