As it appears, and not

Any situation is as it appears, and not.

It’s exactly as it appears, because my mind will do its best to make its beliefs appear true. The mind identifies with certain images and thoughts, and works to make these appear true to itself. The world is filtered, interpreted and labeled as if it’s true. I experience, feel and live as if it’s true.

And it’s not as it appears. Through inquiry, and sometimes in other ways, it’s revealed as something quite different. Perhaps, eventually, what a thought may call innocent, love, presence, awakeness, capacity for all of this appearing as these.
